Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 beginner guide: lock a class, fill seats with AI, match elemental ammo, then crouch the gunline before your first LV-558 drop.
First Fireteam drop — class, AI fill, elemental ammo.
This Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 beginner guide is the first-drop loop for Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 from Cold Iron Studios, published by Daybreak Game Company: pick a class, fill empty Fireteam seats with AI bots, read the mission enemy preview, match elemental ammo, then clear the opener on Casual or Standard. Squad size is 1–4 Colonial Marines (up from 3 in the first game). You do not need Fireteam Elite 1. Verified August 26, 2026 · Steam store.

Classes
Six — five base kits at drop; Specialist is earned
You control one Marine. The Fireteam is always four seats. Empty seats fill with AI bots so a solo drop is still a four-stack, not a lonely corridor. Cross-platform play and voice chat are listed on storefronts — party-invite labels stay TBA on this page; see crossplay.

Bots are seats, not a class pick
You do not pick Alpha, Beta, or Gamma as a player class. They are the fill names when a human is missing. Launch-window reports treat them as more role-defined than the first game’s thinner generic bots: Alpha holds mid, Beta hangs back, Gamma pushes close. Exact bot weapon SKUs and command-wheel labels stay TBA.
Solo is legal; Insane is not the teaching step
Campaign and Horde both run with AI fill. Start Casual or Standard until the loop is automatic. Insane unlock requirements stay TBA — do not treat it as the first-drop slider. Intense and above is where friendly fire (including some abilities) starts to punish stacked corridors.
Once the four seats make sense, the next lock is what you actually do after the dropship doors open.
What should I do on the first mission?
The hub is UAS / USS Endeavor. Loadout lives there. The surface is LV-558 / Storr Boon’s Mining Facility after a Weyland-Yutani colony distress call — public copy is explicit this is not a rescue fantasy. Full mission names stay TBA; this page only needs the opener checklist.
Do01Create / confirm your Marine on the Endeavor — cosmetics can wait
Do02Pick a base class (not Specialist) and a kit you can shoot without a tutorial overlay
Do03Leave empty seats alone — Alpha / Beta / Gamma fill them
Do04Open the mission and read the enemy preview before you confirm
Do05Match elemental ammo to that preview (fire vs Xenomorphs, piercing vs armor)
Do06Set Casual or Standard — Insane unlock path stays TBA; do not start there
Do07On the surface: fight near ammo crates, top off before you push the next room
Do08Health kits: treat as scarce — exact spawn / carry rules stay TBA until captured
Do09Revive downs immediately — do not assume a full mid-mission resurrect (that rule stays TBA)
The briefing is the loadout screen
Campaign missions preview which factions appear. If the card shows Xenomorphs, Incendiary is the starting rule (they are fire-sensitive in public materials). If Synths / heavy plates show, bring Piercing. Pathogen packs still want control (Cryo / Electric) plus a plan for a Harbinger pin. Do not invent a 15-row name list — missions owns the index once names are captured.
Ammo crates are hold points, not souvenirs
Primary magazines run dry. The infinite sidearm exists so you are never unarmed, not so you can ignore crates. Fight the hold near a crate, top off, then move. Health kits near crates are scarce in launch-window guides — do not invent a exact quota, but do not hoard while a Marine is down either.
The next waste is picking Specialist — or splitting your first hours across five kits — before you can finish one drop.
Which class should I start with?
Six Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 classes: Duelist, Marauder, Machinist, Hunter, Medic, and Specialist. The first five launch. Specialist is the mix you earn by leveling those kits — it is not the mission-one select. There is no verified S-tier on this wiki. Full comparison: classes.
If you…
Start
Why
Just want to shoot and learn the sequel
Duelist
Two primary slots; Stay on Target rewards continuous fire — least extra UI
Hate swarms in corridors
Marauder
Blast Cannon / Titan Rockets clear packs — watch friendly fire from Intense up
Play mostly solo with AI fill
Machinist
Sentry + Bodyguard Drone add guns that hold a lane while you aim
Particle Pulse / Stasis Bolt + Djinn railgun — more aim than spray
Want the hybrid endgame kit
Do not start here
Specialist parts unlock from the five base classes — specialist
Duelist is the teaching kit, not a rank
Duelist (ex-Gunner) is the dual-primary rifle kit. Stay on Target is a damage streak while you keep hitting — exact percent and falloff stay TBA. Burst Configuration and Shrapnel Grenades are the tools (Fragment vs Precision; cluster vs remote). Signature slot: Duelist is the exception with two primaries instead of a class Signature. Named rifles in showcases: DB-48 Daittyo (stable) and HNT-1 E1 Alamein (precision), plus the M41A “Classic” Pulse Rifle.
Medic is insurance, not a bench
A downed Marine can be revived. Whether a fully dead Marine can be brought back mid-mission stays TBA — do not plan around a full resurrect. That still makes Medic’s collapse window (stims, Trauma Station, Bedside Manner 2× revive) more valuable than a “heal after the wipe” fantasy. If your Fireteam is three Duelists, you are the hole.
Once a kit is locked, ammo is the other select-screen decision — it is not cosmetic.
After you lock a kit

Four launch elements: Incendiary, Electric, Cryo, Piercing. Morphic is later / TBA — do not invent an effect. Pair the magazine to the faction on the card, not to a global “best ammo.” Full chart: elements.
Element
Job
First-drop target
Incendiary
Burn / DoT
Xenomorphs — fire-sensitive in public materials
Electric
Stun / control
Fast runners and groups that close the gap
Cryo
Freeze / hold
Crowd control (new versus the first game in previews)
Piercing
Armor
Weyland-Yutani Synths / plated elites (Bulwark)
Morphic
TBA
Later content — skip it on mission one
Priority kills beat DPS arguments
Siren — calls and flees; shoot it first. Exploder — acid puddle on death; do not stand in the corpse. Harbinger (Pathogen) — multi-arm pin. Warden — melee plus acid range. Bulwark Automaton — heavy Synth knockdown up close. HP tables stay TBA. The enemies page is the lookup; this page only needs you not to dump a piercing mag into a Siren that is already running.
Horde is a later habit
Three launch Horde maps — Blacksite, Crash Landed, Crusher — can rotate Xenomorph / Pathogen / Synth. Keep a piercing option if Synths appear. Challenge Cards all apply for the run. Do not start Horde before you can finish a Standard campaign drop.
The sequel QoL that actually changes high-difficulty gunlines is crouch — learn it before Intense.
When should I crouch — and when does friendly fire start?
Crouch is new versus Fireteam Elite 1. On Casual and Standard it is optional posture. From Intense up, launch-window class guides treat friendly fire as on, and high-tier notes say abilities can also hit allies. Four bodies in a corridor is how a Marauder rocket becomes a wipe.
Tier
First-hours rule
Casual / Standard
Teaching steps — practice lanes, crates, and revives without FF pressure
Intense
Friendly fire on (launch-window guides) — crouch the front Marine, stop stacking
Extreme / Insane
Tighter ammo boxes, denser high-threat mixes; abilities can hit allies; Insane unlock path stays TBA — do not assume it is free on the select screen
Front crouches, back shoots
The point of crouch is a gunline, not stealth. The Marine closest to the choke drops profile so pulse rifles behind them are not a teammate’s cause of death. Do not become a sitting duck for Runners and Crawlers — crouch to hold, stand to rotate. Machinist sentries are called out in developer notes as dealing no friendly fire; your rocket and grenade are not that exception.
Spacing is the fourth Marine tax
Three-stack habits from the first game fail here. Call corners, hold separate angles, and do not strafe across a crouched ally during a swarm. Difficulty owns the rule set; tips owns the habits. This page only needs the first-drop version: Standard until the revive and crate loop is boring, then Intense with crouch already in muscle memory.
Resources you spend before that loop is boring are usually spent in the wrong shop.
What should I upgrade first?
The Endeavor is the spend hub: cosmetics, loadout, and weapon craft. Do not park the first hours in decals. Weapon craft is Fire Modes / Traits / Augments. Augments open after a weapon is fully upgraded (showcase copy: a late star that can change elemental type). Exact star gates stay TBA on the number line; the rule is: upgrade the gun you are actually firing.
Spend
First-hours rule
One base class rank
Level the kit you drop with — Specialist parts come from those ranks
Primary you actually use
Fire Modes and Traits on that gun; Duelist: one of the two primaries, not both at once
Infinite sidearm
Keep it as the dry-mag answer, not a second upgrade tree on day one
Signature (non-Duelist)
Unlock the class tool (Smartgun / Volcan / turret guns) after the primary you already trust
Augments
After the weapon is fully upgraded — do not chase Morphic or a fake “best augment”
Perk Grid
42 cells (up from 32 in the first game). Fill the kit you play; do not 42-cell a class you have not dropped
After you can already clear the map on a difficulty you understand
Class rank is Specialist inventory
Specialist parts come from ranking the five base kits. Exact rank gates stay TBA until captured in-game. The implication for this page is simpler: every hour on Duelist is not wasted — it is a part you will slot later.
Do not buy the Rain pack to “fix” mission one
Standard is $49.99. 40th Anniversary Premium is $69.99 (Ripley / Herk packs). Rain’s Jackson’s Star Pack is a separate $9.99 Cosmetics / modified Pulse Rifle with a Cryo underbarrel in public copy. None of that is required to finish the opener. Cosmetics and DLC loadouts are not a difficulty slider.
If the first drop still wipes, it is usually one of the process errors below — not a missing Premium SKU.
Which mistakes wipe the first drop?
Scan this before you confirm the mission. Each row is a process error, not a hidden elite name.
Insane unlock path stays TBA until confirmed in-client — do not jump there from the first drop
Splitting ranks across five kits on day one
One kit until you can finish Standard
Treating Mixed Steam reviews as a reason to skip planning
The loop still needs ammo, crouch, and a Medic hole covered
One habit that fixes most of them
Before you confirm: class is a base kit, briefing factions match your magazines, difficulty is Casual or Standard, and you know who is reviving. During the drop: crate, crouch, Siren, revive. That is the whole beginner loop.
Next: lock the kit on classes, then keep tips for ammo and friendly fire. Party setup: crossplay.
Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 beginner FAQ
Can I play Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 solo?
Yes. Empty Fireteam seats fill with AI bots Alpha (mid-range), Beta (long-range), and Gamma (shotgun). Campaign and Horde both run that way. Co-op is 2–4 humans with cross-platform play listed on storefronts.
Do I need the first Fireteam Elite?
No. This is a standalone sequel. Returning players will notice a fourth Marine, crouch, renamed classes, a 42-cell Perk Grid, and Specialist.
What difficulty should I start on?
Casual or Standard. Intense and above turn friendly fire on (launch-window guides). Insane unlock requirements stay TBA on this wiki — clear Standard/Intense first and confirm the select screen.
Which class is best for beginners?
No verified S-tier. Duelist is the lowest-UI teaching kit (two primaries, Stay on Target). Medic if your group wipes on rescue. Machinist if you solo and want deployables. Specialist is not a first pick.
Does Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 have friendly fire?
Yes on higher difficulties. Launch-window class guides put it on from Intense up, and high-tier notes say abilities can hit allies. Crouch the front of a gunline. Machinist sentries are called out as dealing no friendly fire.
Can I resurrect a dead teammate?
You can revive a downed Marine. Whether a fully dead player can be brought back mid-mission stays TBA on this wiki — do not skip the pickup.
How many campaign missions are there?
Public reports say about 15 across four biomes on LV-558 / Storr Boon’s. This page will not invent names. See the missions index.
Is there crossplay?
Yes — cross-platform play and voice chat on the launch trio (PC, PS5, Xbox). Switch 2 is Autumn 2026; that SKU stays TBA. Details on crossplay.
What should I read next?
Lock a first class on classes, then keep tips for ammo, rescue, and friendly fire. Specialist waits until the five base kits have parts.
