Which platforms can play Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 together?

Official listings and launch-window recaps put full cross-platform co-op on the day-one trio: PC on Steam and the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. A Fireteam of four can mix those storefronts. This wiki will not invent a Steam-only lock, a PS5 exclusive, or a console-generation skip. Confirm the live client still has the toggle on before you blame matchmaking.

Four seats, mixed boxes

Squad size is 1–4 Colonial Marines (up from 3 in the first game). Empty seats fill with AI bots Alpha, Beta, and Gamma, so a Steam host plus one PS5 friend is still a four-stack. You do not need four humans to drop. You do need the humans you have to be on a launch storefront until Switch 2 is live and documented.

No “wrong store” bonus

The same developer Q&A recap says there are no platform-exclusive digital rewards. Buying on Steam versus Epic versus a console is a party problem, not a DLC-miss problem. Standard is $49.99; 40th Anniversary Premium is $69.99. Editions are not a crossplay slider.

Play is only half the listing. Voice is the other half — plenty of games ship one without the other.

Does voice chat work across Steam, Epic, PS5, and Xbox?

Store copy and launch-window recaps list cross-platform voice chat, not only silent matchmaking. That is the high-intent half of Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 crossplay: a PS5 Marine can hear a Steam Marine call a Siren. Mute, push-to-talk, and party-voice toggles live in the client. This wiki will not invent a settings-menu path. Confirm the live audio panel.

NeedWhat is confirmedWhat stays TBA
In-game voice across launch platformsYes — store + recapExact mute / PTT labels
Hearing a Siren call from another boxThat is why voice is listedWhether proximity vs party is the default

Voice is a gunline tool

From Intense up, friendly fire is on. Crouch only works if the Marine in front knows to drop profile. Mixed-platform Fireteams that type in four different overlays will eat rockets. Use the in-game channel for “Siren left,” “crate,” and “down.” Tips owns those calls; this page only needs the channel to exist across boxes.

Discord is optional, not a gate

The official community invite is discord.gg/aliensfireteamelite (merged AFE1 / AFE2 server). This site does not build a Discord guide. If in-game voice fails, agree a fallback before the dropship — do not troubleshoot overlays during a Warden.

The remaining gap is how you actually form the party. Menu labels are TBA.

How do I party up — and what is still TBA?

Launch-window recaps confirm cross-platform play on launch day so the squad can sit on different systems. They do not publish a click-path. This wiki will not invent “open Social → Add Friend → Send Invite” for Steam overlay, Epic, PS5, or Xbox. Confirm the live social panel. If a patch notes a label, it lands here.

Four-stack drop countdown before a co-op mission
  • Do01Same game SKU on Steam, Epic, PS5, or Xbox Series — Switch 2 is not in this list yet
  • Do02Confirm cross-platform play is enabled in the live client (toggle label TBA)
  • Do03Form a Fireteam of 1–4 humans; leave empty seats for Alpha / Beta / Gamma
  • Do04Do not invent a Friends-list click path — use whatever social panel the live build shows
  • Do05Test in-game voice for ten seconds before you confirm the mission
  • Do06Agree difficulty before matchmaking — Quick Play pools per difficulty
  • Do07Host should be the most stable connection (co-op is peer-to-peer)
  • Do08If the host drops: host migration is in; if you disconnect: reconnect is in — do not insta-quit the rest of the squad
  • Do09Read the mission enemy preview and match elements before the doors open

Quick Play versus a premade

Cold Iron Q&A recap: Quick Play covers Campaign missions and Horde from day one. You can queue for either, or for both together, so the matchmaking pool stays as large as possible at each difficulty. A premade mixed-platform party still wants a host. Quick Play is how you fill empty human seats without sitting in a lobby.

Invite codes, overlays, and other fan-wiki paths

Any guide that names a specific party-menu string without a screenshot is guessing. Treat those as TBA here. Steam overlay, Epic Social, PlayStation Friends, and Xbox Game Bar are platform shells — they are not confirmed AFE2 invite steps on this wiki.

Netcode is the other half of “why did my party stutter.” That is P2P, not a missing crossplay toggle.

What about Switch 2, host migration, and Quick Play?

Nintendo Switch 2 is planned for Fall / Autumn 2026 — a window, not a dated storefront lock. Launch-window recaps treat it as the first official acknowledgement of that SKU, not a promise that it already parties with Steam. Until Nintendo notes confirm crossplay and voice, this page marks both TBA. Do not tell a Switch buyer they can drop with your PS5 Fireteam today.

Peer-to-peer is the session, not a platform lock

Someone asked whether the sequel runs dedicated servers. Recap: it does not — same as Fireteam Elite 1. Session quality follows whoever is hosting. Host migration moves the session if the host drops. Reconnect / session rejoin means a bad connection no longer ends the night for everybody. Pick the most stable box as host when the party mixes PC and consoles. That is a habit, not a menu path.

Matchmaking wants a full pool

Quick Play queuing Campaign and Horde together exists to keep the pool full at each difficulty. Splitting your party across “Horde only” and “Campaign only” queues is how you sit in lobby. Agree the mode first. Horde maps (Blacksite, Crash Landed, Crusher) use the same crossplay pool as Campaign in public recaps — they are not a PC-only mode.

Before you drop, lock class, ammo, and difficulty. Mixed platforms do not pause the swarm for loadout arguments.

What should I set before a mixed-platform drop?

Crossplay gets you into the same mission. It does not pick your class, match elemental ammo, or crouch the gunline. A Steam Duelist and a PS5 Marauder still wipe on Intense if nobody revives and the rocket hits the crouch. Run this as a pre-drop card — not as a second beginner guide.

Solo still works if the party never shows

Empty seats fill with AI. You can run Campaign and Horde without a second human. Crossplay matters when a friend exists on another box — not as a requirement to play Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2.
